BIO

Having significantly focused on horseback riding and academic success, Skylar Nelson has been busy accomplishing her goals.

Currently under consideration for extension into a full-length feature, Skylar was thrilled to earn a staring role in the 2008 critically acclaimed independent short film, Marbles With Thoreau. In addition to her breakout acting performance, the young star was also featured in commercials and worked as a print model.

While Skylar has been busy on screen, the young star focused her energy on moving up through the national horse show ranks as well. Not one to back away from a challenge, Skylar has been spending five days a week in the saddle riding several premier show horses and ponies for Burbank-based, Wild Sky Farms. With countless top finishes under her belt, Skylar has piloted her favorite mount, medium pony hunter Macy Grey, to new heights.

In her home state of California, Skylar captured some of the top prizes at both Del Mar National Horse Show and Menlo Charity Horse Show. During competition at Del Mar, Skylar rode Macy Grey to Grand Pony Hunter Champion, and was named “Best Pony Rider." Having already earned her place along side some of the sport's most talented young riders, the thirteen-year-old laid down a near repeat performance at Menlo, where she and her pony took home the Medium Pony Hunter Championship and for the second time solidified the title of “Best Pony Rider."

Proving her consistency and desire to remain on top, Skylar has been named Champion or Reserve Champion at every competition so far this year. In addition to her Division Championships, the talented equestrian has claimed top honors in over ten Pony Hunter Classics since the beginning of 2009. When asked about her achievements Skylar said, “I’ve been riding for so long that it’s just what I love to do. I love the competition, the horses and the sense of accomplishment that comes with winning.”

While riding has taken center stage as of late, Skylar has not forgotten about her other talents. She has kept up on weekly acting classes and voice lesson while also continuing with modeling and commercial work.

Skylar will soon begin to seek new acting representation with the help of her mother, Carlye Byron Nelson, who will be reviewing inquiries from interested agencies. While it is clear Skylar has placed a lot of things on her plate, she is pleased with her hard work and glad to have a strong support system. “It can be hard, but I’m lucky because I have my mom and other people who help me manage my career," Skylar said. "They make it possible for me to do all these amazing things, and to succeed in so many different parts of my life.”
